7 Ways you can get rich as a Programmer
Do you dream of working from anywhere in the world, with freedom and making millions?
Money is everywhere, man. As a programmer, you have tons of opportunities to make money online. In this video, I'm going to show you seven ways you can leverage your programming skills to make money online, potentially earning upwards of +10k a month.
Now, that sounds amazing, right? But remember, this isn't a get-rich-quick scheme; it requires hard work and dedication.
FREELANCING
So let’s start with freelancing.
Freelancing basically means offering your services to potential clients to build them a product such as websites, mobile apps, games, and so on. The difference with full-time jobs is that as a freelancer you’re basically your own boss. You work as many hours as you want, wherever you want, from home, the beach, in another country, wherever.
I started my career straight away with freelancing. I got 3 small clients before I landed a long-term client that I'm still working with 8 months later. I work 40 hours a week with this client but I have the freedom to work whenever I want. For example, I feel like going for a long break then coming back etc.
To start freelancing, I would recommend UPWORK, Fiverr, Freelancer, and so on. You will earn crap at the beginning but while you’re getting these small jobs, you will build a reputation with the 5-star ratings you get from these clients and then upscale and get paid even more, getting invited by big clients.
BLOGGING
Blogging is where you can write articles about programming, tutorials, the latest tech news, and stuff like that. I have made some blog posts but I’m not really consistent with it because my main focus is on one of the businesses I will be talking about right after this one. With blogging, you can earn a lot of money through ads, selling your products such as apps, courses, books. Also from sponsorships etc..
It’s very difficult to make money from blogging because you need to build an audience and building an audience takes years. All of these businesses that will be talked about in this video are all difficult, there is no business that will make you rich super quick.
YOUTUBE
Now we’re going through my favorite way to make money online. I have not made money yet but I 100% believe that I will end up making money through YOUTUBE.
I was always fascinated with talking to cameras, recording myself. I recorded my first youtube video at 10 years old. I knew that one day I would fully commit to it.
Honestly speaking, the reason why I think Youtube is a business that every programmer should consider. Why? because it opens many doors to earning a lot of money and promoting your products, getting clients through youtube, getting brand deals, and sponsorships, and building your personal brand. Youtube has everything.
What you can do with youtube is literally anything to show your expertise. It could be tutorials, experiences, and journeys like I do, the latest trends and news, and many more things.
Also, the people who tell you that Youtube is saturated, are the people who don’t even have a YouTube channel or gave up after 10 videos or so. The same goes for freelancing, blogging, and the rest of the businesses.
YouTube is a marathon and not a sprint.
COURSES
A course is some form of video content where you teach others, for instance, a new programming language. A course can be from 3h to even 100 hours. This is probably one of the greatest ways to earn money and passive income if you do it well.
There are many ways you can make courses, a freelance course where you teach people how to find freelance clients, a course about how to prepare for your interviews, self-development as a developer, and many more things.
In order to get more people in your courses, the best way is to make free content, and you can make that free content from YouTube like a small portion of your course and if people like that, they will most probably buy your course.
That’s why you should always think of giving first before receiving.
TUTORING
Teaching people how to code is a great way to earn money but to learn at the same time. I remember I was teaching my friends how to code but obviously for free. Besides that, I have not tutored for money but I’ve seen people earning a huge amount of money teaching just the basics. One way you can do that is to find parents that want their kids to learn coding or go to high school, uni students and offer them your tutoring services.
MENTORSHIP
Mentoring people is another way, don’t confuse it. Mentoring is basically helping/guiding people throughout their careers by talking about your experiences, and journeys.
I honestly love mentoring people, I’ve had a few calls this week and I’ve got amazing feedback.
Something I’m looking forward to monetizing in the future
CONCLUSION
Overall, I think the best way, in my opinion, is YouTube or creating content in general to scale. Having an online presence is crucial to success. If you build an audience and they trust you, you can do all of them at the same time.
Think of it like this: Building an audience will help you find clients as a freelancer, have a great blog, sell high-quality courses, offer one-on-one coaching, and a mentorship program.
So, in my opinion, YouTube is king.
